This photography workshop is run on various Sundays throughout the year.
Spend an inspiring, educational and creative day with Master Photographer Daniel Linnet and acclaimed International Fashion and Beauty Photographer Scott McGale, as they introduce you to the exciting world of studio lighting.
Learn all the basics to get you started, including: equipment, flash metering, lighting ratios, creating a mood, plus an ample share of tips and tricks from the pro's which will have you shooting like a pro in no time.
Daniel is one of Australia's leading portrait photographers, recently winning the highest scoring portrait at the Australian Professional Photography Awards and also winning the NSW Australian Institute of Professional Photography Portrait Photographer of the Year and NSW Open Photographer of the Year.
Scott McGale is an international Fashion, Beauty and Portrait photographer who has been based in London for more than 10 years. He has worked all over the world and recently he returned to his native Australia and is now based in Sydney. He has received international awards for his fashion and portrait images and is published in more than 20 countries.
On the day of your photography workshop Daniel and Scott will each choose an image from their professional folios, discuss and demonstrate how it was created, then get you to build the shot with fresh models under their guidance to use in your own portfolio. This means you will get first hand experience in designing and creating your own professional fashion and portrait images. This is an exciting, fun and inspirational day of shooting.

During this photography workshop using 2 models on 2 different sets, participants will get an introduction to:
- Daniel Linnet & Scott McGale's work
- Quality of light
- Direction of light
- Lighting ratios
- Using a flash meter
and get extensive demonstrations using professional studio lighting equipment.
Basic overview of some of the topics:
- How to create the mood for your shot
- How to create lighting diagrams
- Studio lighting principles
- How to build your lighting kit
- Studio high key & low key lighting techniques
- How to set up a home studio
- Professional studio lighting secrets
- How to direct your subject to get the right shot
- Using different lighting shapers
- How to shoot using a single light source
- How to build a set & an image from the ground up
This workshop is $450 for 9hrs Tuition
Your fee includes the following:
- 2 Professional and experienced Multi-award winning Photographers / Tutors

MAXIMUM NO. OF STUDENTS PER CLASS IS 16 - which are split into 2 groups of 8 on each set
THIS WORKSHOP IS HELD AT A STUDIO IN ARTARMON, NSW
requirements
You will need to know your way around your camera or have completed a basic or beginners photography course.
Not recommended for compact cameras without full manual mode.
You will need:
- An SLR camera with full manual capability
- All lenses you have (especially wide angle if you have one)
- Lens Hood
- If using film: Plenty rolls use slower iso/asa colour negative film if possible (like Velvia or Provia)
- Memory Card(s) if shooting digital
- All camera accessories - i.e: tripod, lens filters, lens hood, etc. if you have them
- Fully charged camera battery and spare if you have one
- Your cameras manual(s) - for referencing those hard to find features
- Any of your prints or shots you wish to discuss (even those on disk or USB storage device)
- Dress casual & comfortable with sensible shoes (you may get a little dirty)
Note: A tripod is essential. A lens hood & wide angle lens are strongly recommended. If you do not already have these you should consider purchasing them at your earliest convenience as they are an essential part of any good photography kit. Using your SPW Student Discount Card will get you great discounts with our preferred suppliers.
